HFC attitude to PPI

At the meeting I had at HFC head office in 2003 to discuss my firm continuing to act for John Lewis, their solicitor Duncan Hamilton explained Payment Protection Insurance to me because I hadn’t come across it before. He then proudly claimed that they never paid out under PPI. I asked why not and he said it was simple. The premium is paid monthly, if a customer loses their job or is sick the chances are they will miss at least two months payments which will invalidate the insurance. He was very chuffed with this wheeze.

HFC were subsequently fined over £1m for mis-selling PPI. Following my reporting him to the Solicitors Regulation Authority Duncan Hamilton has now left HSBC (HFC) and works as a consultant at the very solicitors who he had instructed to apply the illegal charges.
