Explanatory Memorandum

The new power for a registered debtor to amend his entry on the Register brings
the Regulations up to date with the Data Protection Act 1998.
The new power for the Registrar to refuse access to the Register is intended to
assist with the tackling of so called ‘credit repair’ companies, who sometimes use
the data on the register to target potential customers, with advice on how to
undermine the court process.
